Perfect Your Presentations - Using Mind Maps

How many times do you see the following in presentations?

The Speaker prepares presentations with a few pages of notes and often transferred into a Power Point slide all made up of linear sentences.

They stand up behind the podium and start to read, (expecting their diligent audience to take 'proper notes'). They drone on monotonously at a pace enabling their audience to copy their words.

Drooping shoulders and heavy heads become more and more visible.

Is this method actually doing any good?

Basically: NO.

Words alone are not helping anyone in the audience understand let alone remember what the speaker has gone on about.

I have been in these types of Presentations many times and not only are they boring they are not presented in a way that is natural for the brain to comprehend (that’s why I find it hard to stay awake in them!)

That’s why Presentations need to show the information in a way that can be easily digested by the brain and in a visually informative way.

An EFFECTIVE PRESENTATION will include KEYWORDS, Lots of images with Color.

The Presentation will show clear Connections and Associations, by using these in Presentations you are triggering the audience imagination and ensuring they are absorbing what you are presenting to them.

These are the critical elements of successful Presentation but just how do we do this?

Using Mind Maps Provide Organization and Structure to your Presentation:

When creating your Presentation it is important that you Mind Map the Basics of you Maps first before you even begin to concentrate on the subject matter.

Mind Maps are perfect for structuring and organizing current ideas and plans in a memorable way for presenting to others.

When creating your Presentation you need to know your audience and what points you want to get across and also what they stand to benefit from your presentation.

When creating you Mind Map include Keyword branches like “Case Studies”, 'Analysis', 'Inspiration', 'Understanding' etc. When you create your Mind Map like this you will be able to turn the keywords and
ideas into a coherent order ensuring that you use hard data to back up any views or ideas that you may use in the presentation.

Ensure your central image incorporates the subject, while the branches should represent the subjects for discussion. By using a Mind Map, you will find your role in a wider context will be clearer, and will find it easier to stick to your subject as your thoughts will be less likely to wander off on a tangent.

STAND OUT! - use images and colors:
When creating your Presentation be sure to use plenty of images, colors and even symbols. By using these you are clearly getting your point across and the visual aspects make the presentation more “enlightening” and interesting.

And even if you are presenting a lot of information that is boring by using a Mind Map you can turn it into a memorable and colorful organized visually in a way the brain of the audience will remember.

So when creating your Mind Map ensure that your ideas lively up your presentation into a more interactive experience for those you are presenting to!.

Be Assured Of What You Are Presenting:

Interaction with your audience is another key aspect to a successful presentation. This can be achieved by building up the Mind Map as you share your information with your audience and asking them to contribute any
ideas or thoughts to the map.

Also encourage your participants to take Notes in the form of their own individual Mind Maps on your presentation.

This requires the audience to think for themselves and encourage active participation; consequently the audience is more likely to get the most out of your presentation.

Mind Maps allow participants to break the linear tradition of note taking and helps them to make appropriate associations and absorb more information effectively.

When you are using the above in your Presentations you will also be more confident in yourself and the information you are presenting, making for a Memorable Presentation with winning Results!.

Until Next Time….Take Care & Happy Mapping!
